It's as hard to unsubscribe from many of these things as it is to stop eating sugar or drinking coffee. But in the long run I look forward to the results. I bet I am in danger of being on your unsubscribe list (and probably a lot of other people's). I definitely whine more than my fair share. Thanks for helping me see that flaw - now I need to try to do better! Excellent advice. I bet I am in danger of being on your unsubscribe list (and probably a lot of other people’s). Comment on Reflections on the Birth of PSC or “We’re Going to Build Something this Winter” by Corey Haines http://blog.updyke.com/2010/11/10/reflections-on-the-birth-of-psc-or-were-going-to-build-something-this-winter/comment-page-1/#comment-100 Corey Haines Thu, 11 Nov 2010 11:08:42 +0000 http://blog.updyke.com/?p=133#comment-100 I'm looking forward to seeing how the winter goes with this group. It is exciting to see so many SC groups start up. I'd guard against the either/or mentality of practice/creation that sometimes can take over people; work hard to keep this from becoming 'just another hackfest.' I'd recommend spending a little time each meeting on a specific practice-oriented activity, maybe 15-30 minutes, before starting the work. This will help get people into the mindset of writing good stuff, especially if they are coming from a day of 'just getting it done' on Monday at their day jobs. So, as you build, since you are doing it on your own time, work hard to not just experiment with the new, but spend time focusing on writing great code. Reflect a lot on what you've written, so you can use this opportunity to improve your existing skills, not only learn new frameworks, languages, etc. I’m looking forward to seeing how the winter goes with this group.
